An Invitation to Be Quiet

A prayer for my Sweet 16 daughter, Lucy, who celebrates her birthday on the Immaculate Heart of Mary. 💙

Take heart, dear one.

The world you were born into is loud, unkind, and crude. It will cast judgments on you and cancel you quickly. You are right to be afraid. Danger looms around each dark corner.

But, you are safe. Undeniably secure, actually.

Run to the quiet each morning. Sit in the darkness and light your candle of faith. This seemingly small flame will quickly envelop your soul and will help you to see with new eyes of Truth. It will light your way, helping you to know which next step to take.

The more okay you are with the unknowns, the more peace you will have along your journey. Do not obsess over step #4, or step #2. Take your next known step and then wait to receive the one that follows. It may take a while and that’s okay.

Amidst all of the noise and madness, run confidently to the quiet. He waits for you there.

Be still and listen until you feel like you are wasting time frivolously.

Rest assured, you are not.

This time spent with Him is the best possible investment in your day and in your life.

Be with Him. 💙

No expectations. No should’s.

As you grasp the corner of his cloak, you will walk away changed. The great healer will do great work in your heart in the quiet, sweet one.

And please remember that you have not been forgotten. He is waiting for you. Go and find Him there. He will smile genuinely at your arrival. He will listen patiently to your every word. He will speak when you are quiet. He loves this time with you!

Take heart, dear one. The world may hate you, but you are LOVED.

Jesus ADORES you! 💙

Receive His love by showing up in the quiet.

(This prayer is inspired by a reflection Lucy wrote and shared courageously with a jam-packed room of 300 women recently at the Advent By Candlelight event at our church. Read her entire speech here.)
